Othello: Fierce Emotions
An examination of the fierce emotions of the characters, especially the love Desdemona feels for Othello.
“Desdemona is an excellent wife for a soldier. She has the courage of her convictions and she does not allow her father, Brabantio, to bully her into making a marriage with a “wealthy, curled” darling (I, ii, 68). She wants to be with the man she loves and she has fallen in love with him in large measure for his exploits, his adventures, and for his military success. In Act I, scene iii, when Othello is preparing to leave for a military mission to Cyprus he would like Desdemona to stay behind in the safety of Venice, but she asks for permission to be with him in Cyprus.”
